VVA CHAPTER 279 STATEMENT

In 1986, Vietnam Veterans of America granted a charter to Chapter 279. Vietnam Veterans of America is a Congressionally Charted Veterans Service Organization. The organization does this by education, community service and legislative action.

VVA Chapter 279 accomplishes this mission by endowed scholarships at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Nebraska -Omaha, University of Nebraska-Kearney, Bellevue University and Metropolitan Community College. These scholarships are for Vietnam Veterans and their families and all veterans. The Chapter conducts educational programs through on-site meetings and informational booths.

The Chapter conducts various programs throughout the year to provide Veterans a better life. Included in these programs are gift cards to Veterans Service Offices in Cass, Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy and Washington Counties. These cards are used for emergency situations throughout the year and for all Veterans. The Chapter also conducts food, furniture and clothing drives for homeless Veterans and Veterans in Veteran Care facilities. The Chapter does participate in various parades and events on a regular basis.

The Chapter maintains a relationship with the State Legislators and members of Congress.
